I’m Han Rui, based in Beijing. I work on internet infrastructure systems, and write to capture what I learn along the way.

At ByteDance, I work on video network delivery infrastructure for Douyin and TikTok—spanning edge media services, transport protocols, and building the resource supply system that supports global delivery. I also maintain long-term collaborations with academic partners to bring research thinking into real production problems.

Han Rui is a Staff Engineer at ByteDance, focused on video network delivery infrastructure for Douyin and TikTok. His work spans edge media services, transport protocols, and the resource supply system behind global delivery, with an emphasis on reliability, performance, and cost. He has led teams through large-scale architecture and efficiency work in production environments. Earlier in his career, he spent years as an entrepreneur building innovative products in distributed systems and real-time media.
